GPEX is held in partnership with the Catalan Institute of Energy, part of the Government of Catalonia

The Catalan Institute of Energy will work in partnership with the organisers of GPEX, as well as key stakeholders and advisory board members, to develop, support and promote GPEX 2018, and further ensure its success as a strategic and important platform for the global power and energy community.

The Catalan Institute of Energy (Institut Catalá d'Energia) aims to promote and carry out initiatives and action programs for the research, study and support of the actions of knowledge, development and application of energy technologies, including renewables, the improvement of energy saving and efficiency, the promotion of the rational use of energy and, in general, the optimal management of energy resources in the different economic sectors of Catalonia.

Objectives of the new Catalan energy model include, by 2030, achieving, at least, the targets set out in the EU's '2030 Climate and Energy Package' include:

  • By 2030, 27% of gross final energy consumption in Catalonia should be renewable and 50% of electricity should be generated from renewable sources
  • Improving energy efficiency in Catalonia by 30% by 2030 compared to projections of future energy consumption, taking into account the EU's current criteria
  • Reducing greenhouse gas emissions linked to the energy cycle in Catalonia by 40% compared to 1990 emissions levels by 2030.
  • By 2050, establishing an energy model based 100% on renewable energy, preferably by 2050 if this is possible technically, environmentally and economically

GPEX 2018 is not another international energy event, but it is the energy transition event. An energy transition process that is widely spread and advanced through an increasing number of countries around the world. I am fully convinced that GPEX will contribute to the global world energy transition process, and locally, it will give a strong momentum to a clean, sustainable and decentralized energy transition in Catalonia.
